There is plenty to keep all ages amused in and around Springfield. Whether you are looking to fill a free hour, or want to organize a whole day out, there is a wide variety of leisure pursuits and entertainment. Myriad festivals include Japanese Fall festival, blues, Firefall, and a farmfest too. Springfield also boasts its very own symphony orchestra who offers a regular program of performances. If you are a history buff, there is more than enough to keep you occupied. If pre-history is your hobby look no further than Missouri Museum of Natural Sciences located near Riverbluff Cave. Plans are being discussed to expand the site. If you like your history more recent you could try History Museum for Springfield, Discovery Center of Springfield, Frisco Railroad Museum, General Sweeny's Museum, or Wilson's Creek National Battlefield.
Springfield has plenty of parks, creeks, and rivers if you feel the need for some fresh air, or maybe some fishing. The town also has plenty of malls and stores providing everything you might need.
About Springfield
Springfield may be one of the country's most common city names, but Springfield, Missouri stands on its own. As a mid-size metro area, the city has a healthy job market, a positive economic outlook, an active arts community, and good neighborhoods, and cultural attractions.
The city is known as "The Birthplace of Route 66," due to its early connection with the designation of that highway. The Route 66 Association of Missouri has dedicated a plaque in Park Central Square just for that.
